WHAT IS DPG/DMG
“Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma” is a brain tumour that forms in the ‘pons’, the brain’s control centre located atop the spinal cord. A type of ‘diffuse midline glioma’ (DMG) the cancer is usually diagnosed in children and young adults. There are no treatments for DIPG/DMG and so patients typically survive a matter of months following diagnosis- just ten per cent of patients survive two years, and less than one per cent survive five years.
