WI helps Sunbury students learn construction skills

Winslow Infrastructure, with partners Prace and Djerriwarrh Community and Education Services, has established a construction skills Employment Skills Program, with training held at Djerriwarrh’s head office in Melton.

The training program is authorised by the Adult Community and Further Education Board and aims to develop civil construction work skills for students to gain greater opportunities in the industry.

The curriculum was co-designed by Winslow and is specifically built to ensure trainees are ‘boots on the ground’ ready to commence a construction industry role, with the course running for eight days over three weeks.

The Sunbury Pre-Employment Hub will provide training and employment opportunities within the construction industry to people within the Sunbury area.

The Sunbury Road Upgrade Project team hosted 10 trainees who were taken on a site tour to provide more insights into the construction industry and the project.

This was well received by the trainees, who want to kick-start their career in construction jobs such as labourers or traffic controllers.

The Employability Skills Curriculum includes a working in construction overview, white card training and ticket attainment, interview and resume writing techniques, communication and active listening, and conflict management skills.
