Transport Minister on site for start of Coomera works

Queensland Minister for Main Roads the Honourable Bart Mellish joined Winslow Infrastructure’s Queensland team on site last week to announce the commencement of the Early Works package as part of the Coomera Connector Stage 1 South.

In May, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) announce Winslow as the Early Works civil contractor for the section from Nerang River to Nerang-Broadbeach Road.

“Getting works started on Stage 1 South of the Coomera Connector is a fantastic milestone, laying the foundations for main construction works for this section from Molendinar to Nerang,” Mr Mellish said.

“As the Gold Coast continues to grow, we’re getting on with the job of building a future-proofed road that will connect communities and get people home safer and sooner.”

The early works program will make the site construction-ready with vegetation clearing, relocation of service utilities, bulk earthworks, and preloading activities to be undertaken to support the next stage of construction, where new embankment and excess material will be placed on the existing ground for approximately six months to consolidate and increase the bearing capacity of the underlying soft soils.

Once settled, the excess embankment will be removed and ready for this stage of the Coomera Connector motorway.

“The team at Winslow is delighted to partner with the Department of Transport and Main Roads on the Coomera Connector Stage 1 Early Works package, and proud to contribute to the advancement of major infrastructure in Queensland,” said Winslow Queensland Construction Manager David Rogers.

The connector will improve and provide more reliable travel times between Brisbane and the Gold Coast by reducing the number of local trips on the M1 and increase safety.

The Australian and Queensland governments have committed $3.026 billion to the project.
