Winslow Queensland is set for a busy 2026 with more projects awarded across both the Infrastructure and Urban divisions, and there are plenty of roles that need to be filled.

With a construction boom expected in Queensland in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, there are many career opportunities for anyone wanting to relocate from Victoria to Brisbane and the Northern Rivers region.

“There’s a lot of growth happening in Queensland, and Winslow is at the forefront of major construction work,” said Senior Foreman Khaled Ahmed (pictured), who relocated to Brisbane in September.

“I can see plenty of opportunities to develop and take on more responsibility as projects expand.”

Site Engineer Rajkumar Mangalagiri, made the move from Melbourne Northern NSW in August 2024, said there is a lot of development happening across the Northern Rivers region, and Winslow has a strong presence there.

“The variety of projects offer plenty of opportunities to grow and take on new challenges,” Rajkumar said.

“I’m currently working on the Sandhills Wetlands Project in Byron Bay, which involves landscaping, planting, and environmental rehabilitation.

“It’s been a great learning experience and gives me a chance to work across multiple scopes — from earthworks to detailed planting and environmental management.

“Professionally, there are exciting projects to work on and plenty of room to grow within Winslow. Plus, the natural beauty of this place makes every day feel special — you’re never far from the coast or the countryside.”

Site Engineer Merron Zerihun said his responsibilities as a Site Engineer in Queensland are slightly different from what he was doing in Victoria.

“It has really helped broaden my experience,” said Merron, who made the move to Brisbane in June 2024.

“I had much more exposure to day-to-day activities, which helped me understand the work in greater detail.”

Lifestyle

Those who have relocated have not only enjoyed the increased career opportunities, but also the lifestyle.

“After work, it’s easy to unwind outdoors, and the weather makes it even better. The people are genuine, and the local culture has a great feel,” Rajkumar said.

“Winslow was a huge help with my relocation — they made the process smooth and supported me through everything from organising the move to getting established on site.”

Asked what he would tell his former workmates in Victoria f they were considering a move north, Khaled said “go for it”.

“The move offers great professional opportunities, a balanced lifestyle, and a chance to be part of Winslow’s exciting expansion in Queensland,” said Khaled, who was also the November National Safety Excellence Award winner.

“The company provides strong support, and the experience helps broaden your skills and perspective both on and off the job.”

Khaled said the transition from Victoria was seamless, with Winslow providing support throughout the relocation process.

“Stephen Strano and James Jenkins played a crucial role in making the transition to Queensland a straightforward one and ensuring everything was in place for a smooth start on site,” Khaled said.

“The team I have worked alongside thus far, have been incredibly welcoming and supportive. Having that assistance made a big difference and helped me settle in faster.”
