SMS adds winery to surveying credentials

In a change of scenery, as impressive as it is, Survey Management Solutions has been assisting in the construction of Marnong Estate’s new winery and cellar door.

SMS Senior Surveyor Douglas Thirkell (pictured) has been working on the Mickleham site, north of Melbourne, for a year managing all survey requirements including bulk earthworks, the set out of complex structure beams, mechanical and electrical services, and roadways.

“This has been a great project for SMS. It’s quite a unique project and not an opportunity that comes up every day. I’m really looking forward to seeing the high-quality finished project soon,” said SMS Business Unit Manager Travis Gains.

Wine is already being produced onsite from grapes grown on the estate with works continuing on the soon-to-be completed winery.

The estate, with historical ‘Marnong’ homestead that dates back the 1840s, ran livestock before being transformed into a vineyard, accommodation, dining, and function centre in 2016.
