Smoking ceremony signals start of works

Winslow Infrastructure’s Watson Street Interchange Upgrade team was last week welcomed onto Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country through a smoking ceremony held at the project compound, marking the start of major construction works.

Federal Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell joined Winslow Infrastructure and VIDA Roads crews, along, to acknowledge Country and pay respects to the Traditional Owners of the land.

The smoking ceremony, led by Wurundjeri Man Colin Hunter Junior Junior, marked an important cultural and project milestone, recognising both the commencement of major works and the significance of the site, which has deep and ongoing connections to the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People.

Winslow Infrastructure acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land and thanks Elders for their welcome and ongoing guidance.

“Participating in the smoking ceremony was a meaningful moment for our team and an important reminder of the responsibility we carry working on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung land,” Project Director, Gosia Suchorska said.

“We’re proud to acknowledge the Traditional Owners, respect their enduring connection to Country, and ensure that recognition is reflected in how we deliver this project.”
