National Reconciliation Week

Madison and Malcolm had the privilege of attending Wyrallah Road Public School in Lismore to speak with students from Kindergarten to Year 6, alongside teachers and parents, in honour of National Reconciliation Week.

Held annually from May 27th to June 3rd, Reconciliation Week marks two pivotal events in Australian history: the 1967 Referendum, when Australians voted to count Aboriginal people in the national census, and the Mabo Decision in 1992, when the High Court finally acknowledged that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the Traditional Custodians of this country.

This year’s theme, “Bridging Now to Next,” reminds us of the vital link between our shared past, our actions today, and the future we want to build together. It’s a call to all of us to reflect, learn, and move forward in unity.

To honour this message, Madison shared a powerful moment by speaking in her family’s native Bundjalung language – a moving reminder of the cultural resilience and strength of First Nations communities.
