Enviro team leading the way on landfill project

Winslow Queensland’s Infrastructure team has expanded its waste infrastructure capabilities with the construction of the Caboolture Landfill Expansion Project, which was commissioned by the City of Moreton Bay to protect waterways from pollutants.

The Caboolture area is rich in waterways that flow into ecologically sensitive areas, such as the Pumicestone Passage.

It is part of the Moreton Bay Ramsar site, a 35km tidal wetland in the Moreton Bay region considered of international importance.

Winslow is installing a High-Efficiency Sediment (HES) basin at the landfill, which represents a significant upgrade in stormwater management, directly addressing potential water pollution from the site to the surrounding area.

The basin ensures the protection of vital aquatic ecosystems, supports regulatory compliance, and demonstrates a commitment to sustainable waste management practices in the region.

The development also represents a vital investment in the region’s long-term waste management strategy.

Sediment often carries other environmental pollutants like nutrients (from decomposing waste), pesticides (if present in incoming waste streams), and heavy metals.

By actively controlling sediment and pollutant pathways, the HES basin significantly lowers the overall environmental risk associated with the landfill’s operations, even during heavy rainfall events.

Despite facing several logistical and environmental challenges, Winslow Queensland continues to make strong progress with the project on track for practical completion in September.
