Drawing satisfaction from planning to project completion

During Women in Construction Week, Winslow recognises the valuable contribution to the Group.

For Project Engineers Priya Kumar and Sarah Bacon, who work in Winslow Constructors Medium Density team in Melbourne, seeing a project through from planning to completion is a highlight of their roles.

“One of the most satisfying parts of the job is seeing our work come to life,” Sarah said.

“Unlike many professions where results may be abstract or intangible, civil engineering involves creating something physical – whether it’s a retirement village, townhouse living, or a standard residential development.

“Watching a project evolve from drawings on paper to the finished plan is an incredibly gratifying experience.”

Priya said working in the construction industry can be challenging but it is “significantly rewarding”.

“The challenges, such as tight deadlines, overcoming unexpected obstacles and coordinating various teams have provided many opportunities to develop my confidence, technical knowledge and leadership and project management skills,” Priya said.

“It has encouraged personal growth through learning the importance of attention-to-detail and effective communication while working in high pressure situations. Overall, it has been a fulfilling experience.”

Sarah said she found support through making connections with peers within Winslow and the industry.

“The construction industry is known for its mix of challenges and rewards, but having a strong support system, such as the Women of Winslow (mentoring program), whether it’s a mentorship group, professional associations, or coworkers makes a significant difference,” Sarah said.
