Championing change as the Women of Winslow Ambassador
During Women in Construction Week, which culminates with the International Women’s Day on Sunday, Winslow recognises their valuable contribution to the Group.
Winslow is future-focused on supporting our women and we believe that “you can’t be what you can’t see”.
The Women of Winslow is an ongoing initiative across the Group aimed at supporting site-based females through upskilling our current female site leaders.
Winslow Constructors Project Manager Kelly-Marie Turei has embraced her role as the Women of Winslow Ambassador.
Balancing this voluntary position with her day-to-day duties, Kelly-Marie has taken on the role with the passion and drive to make a meaningful difference across the company and the wider construction industry.
Kelly-Marie’s motivation to become the Ambassador stems from a lifelong passion for encouraging women, particularly in male-dominated fields. Recalling her experiences as one of the few females in her Civil Engineering lectures at university, she has always felt compelled to do more to support other women pursuing similar paths.
Last year, she took the initiative and asked how she could make a greater impact.
“There’s always a need to improve or do more in this area,” Kelly-Marie says. “Not just for Winslow but for the construction industry as a whole. Any company can benefit from the unique skills, knowledge, and perspectives that women bring to the table. What better way than to encourage and support them where I can?”
As the Ambassador, Kelly-Marie has introduced innovative ideas to enhance and expand the WoW initiative. She has developed a template for improving Winslow’s existing mentoring program, aiming to add a personal touch and further elevate the success of the initiative.
Beyond that, she has been actively engaging with women across Winslow’s locations in different states.
“I’ve had the privilege of meeting some of our amazing team in South Australia via Teams and discussing how I can support them or help them attend events together,” she said.
“Later this year, I plan to meet with those in Queensland with the same objectives – introducing what WoW is all about, providing support, sharing industry insights, and fostering connections.”
Kelly-Marie encourages women within the Group to seek her guidance and support, whether by phone or email.
“It’s been exciting to see their enthusiasm and to relate to some of their experiences. Many women have similar challenges in this industry, and I’m happy to provide support and advice where I can,” she said.
“We are fortunate to have a company like Winslow, which is so supportive of initiatives like this. It’s up to individuals to seize these opportunities, and if I can assist in helping them take that step, I’m more than happy to do so.
“The opportunity is here for all of us. Together, we can create meaningful change for women in construction – for today and for the future.”
