Environmental Check list – Are you ready?
This December, Winslow is rolling out a Christmas campaign, aimed at planning for the break and implementing environmental measures to ensure exposed surfaces are managed and dewatering is undertaken before the last working day of the year.
These efforts aim to minimise environmental risks and harm, protect local ecosystems, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (General Environmental Duty).
The Green Christmas campaign will run from Monday December 1 to Friday December 19.
Winslow’s environmental and HSE team will be in touch with each of our sites to provide guidance on what planning and measures need to be put in place.
All projects must prepare for site shutdown by:
- Ensuring all disturbed surfaces are compacted and stabilised. All high-risk areas must be covered with geopolymer/soil binder
- Maintain all sediment and erosion controls including dewatering sediment basins and sumps
- Install increased controls near environmentally sensitive areas, such as waterways including temporary works in/alongside waterways
- Ensure sites are clean and maintained including fuels/oils/chemicals stored in bunded and covered areas and away from drainage lines
These proactive steps will:
- Help protect the environment during the construction shutdown,
- Reduce the likelihood of compliance issues by controlling sediment runoff and dust, and
- Assist in preserving the condition of our project sites so that works can continue after the break with minimal rectification time and resources.
Prior to the site shutdown ensure you have completed the Environmental Site Closure Checklist. A copy can be found on Safety Culture.
The team looks forward to working with all of you over the next few weeks to ensure we leave each and every site prepared for the break.
