National Recycling Week 2025
At Winslow, we are a learning organisation – skilled at creating, acquiring, and transferring knowledge amongst us.
Every week is a chance to learn and do things better, and National Recycling Week is no exception.
This year, our focus is on learning how to reduce waste wherever possible and recycle correctly.
Take time to understand the simple actions that can make a big impact – for the environment, our worksites, and the next generation.
Why recycling matters
When we reuse and recycle, we help conserve natural resources like forests, which capture harmful greenhouse gases such as CO₂.
Reducing what goes to landfill also limits the production of methane, another damaging greenhouse gas.
Better waste management doesn’t just protect the planet; it also creates cleaner, safer, and more efficient worksites for everyone.
Learning what goes where
Part of this week’s learning is understanding how to separate waste correctly:
Paper → recycle Cardboard → recycle Comingle (glass, plastic, aluminium cans, steel cans, milk/juice cartons, paper plates) → recycle – no food scraps
General waste (shrink wrap, wrappers, food scraps) → landfill
The goal is simple: avoid, reduce, or reuse wherever possible, and only dispose of waste as a last resort.
Putting learning into action
Plan ahead: make sure the right bins are available in your work area.
Do: sort waste correctly and think before you print.
Check: read bin labels carefully and avoid overfilling skips.
Act: use the correct bins, and if you see contamination, fix it safely.
It starts with awareness
Recycling Week is about building awareness, but the impact lasts long after the week ends.
Every small decision (what we print, where we toss rubbish, how we set up our bins) adds up.
By learning, planning, and acting together, we can make our sites cleaner, safer, and more sustainable.
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
It’s how we work – the Winslow Way.
