Starting Conversations That Matter: R U OK?

At Winslow, we know that building strong connections starts with looking out for one another. This year’s R U OK? Day was a powerful reminder of just how important it is to check in, listen, and create space for honest conversations.

Winslow Supervisor, David Fletcher, organised a BBQ for his site team in Queensland, turning a casual get-together into a meaningful moment of connection. While shopping for supplies, David ran into BSF Mobile Cranes Supervisor, Paul Montague. During their chat, Paul shared a poem written by a close friend about the struggles of drought and mental health, and asked if he could come to site to speak to the crew. David immediately welcomed the idea.

At the BBQ, David opened with a toolbox talk before inviting Paul to share his story. Speaking openly about his own experiences with mental health, Paul’s words struck a chord with the team. David also shared his journey, and what followed was truly inspiring: several workers, including an Aqua Dig employee, stepped forward to talk about their own challenges.

What unfolded was more than a BBQit was a genuine display of care, courage, and connection. Barriers were broken down, conversations were started, and mates stood side by side, proving the real impact of asking, “Are you OK?”

QLD ruok day 2

At Winslow, we’re proud of our people for showing vulnerability and support. R U OK? Day is about more than one day, it’s about providing opportunities for connection and keeping the conversation going, every day. We’re making our way along the road to positive mental health.
