Farm work leads to career in construction

Our newest Supervisor, Winslow Queensland’s Jacinta Galbraith, began working in construction 15 years ago after working in farming where she operated machinery.

She says this provided her with a solid foundation for a career in civil.

Jacinta was recently promoted to Supervisor on the Coomera Connector Project, where Winslow is performing early works on Stage 1 South. 

Jacinta joined Winslow eight years ago as a Grade Checker and Operator working on road construction at Yarrabilba, south of Brisbane, before expanding her skills.

“Throughout my time with Winslow I’ve mainly focused on subdivision work, developing skills in earthworks, roads, services and supervision,” she said.

“My first supervisory role was on the Riverbend Clearing Project.

“The Coomera Connector is my first infrastructure and TMR (Department of Transport and Main Roads) project with Winslow,” Jacinta said.

“I’m excited about the learning opportunities it presents and for my future growth in the company.”

She said when she started working at Winslow, there were only three women in the field.

“Now, we have women working on nearly all our projects, and I’m happy to have been a part of that change,” she said.

“My advice for anyone starting out, especially women, is to show commitment, work to the best of your ability, and learn as much as possible about the job.

“There is a great sense of achievement in delivering a job well done.”
