Winslow Infrastructure’s Queen of Sustainability retires
Julie Buckley, fondly known as Winslow Infrastructure’s “Queen of Sustainability”, is today putting down the tools for the last time and retiring.
Julie was Winslow’s first-ever environmental and sustainability professional and has played a vital role in advancing Winslow Infrastructure and the broader construction industry’s sustainability practices.
Her efforts in implementing environmentally and commercially viable initiatives on various projects are set to leave a lasting legacy for future projects and the communities they impact.
A passionate and resilient leader with a strong work ethic, Julie is dedicated to innovation and excellence.
With nearly 20 years of experience, including almost seven years at Winslow Infrastructure, Julie has become a trusted adviser, mentor, and manager.
On the Sunbury Road Upgrade Project, Julie demonstrated exceptional leadership by adopting a holistic approach that considered environmental, social, and economic impacts.
Her commitment to surpassing the industry’s sustainability goals and her collaborative efforts with the wider team contributed to achieving two Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) Excellent Ratings in both design and as-built phases.
In 2023, Julie received a Commendation for ‘Excellence in Sustainability’ from the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) and is recognised as an expert in her field across the industry, regularly attending and presenting at forums and events.
In May 2024 the Winslow Infrastructure Environment and Sustainability Team was awarded the Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) Industry Award for Sustainability Excellence.
The team was recognised for exemplifying excellence in initiative, capability, and subject matter expertise, demonstrating a commitment to learning and supporting delivery teams and the broader sustainability initiatives across Winslow.
Collectively, the team showed immense capability to lead cultural change within the business, while transforming the planning, design and delivery processes and practices of the Lathams and Sunbury Road Upgrade projects, and other projects – Julie played a lead role in all of this.
Julie’s passion for all things environmental and sustainability and her continuing contribution to the Winslow Infrastructure, and broader Winslow business will be greatly missed.
With this passion in mind, today we officially announce the Winslow Infrastructure Julie Buckley Award for Environmental and Sustainability Excellence.
This award will become an annual celebration of excellence in the fields of environment and sustainability.
One lucky Winslow Infrastructure employee will be crowned the winner of this prestigious award each year, for demonstrating over and above commitment and dedication to the environment and sustainability on our sites and/or in our offices.
This award will recognise passion, innovation, implementation of changed practices and outcomes and a work ethic and commitment aligned with our Winslow FACES values.
This year’s winner of the inaugural Winslow Infrastructure Julie Buckley Award for Environmental and Sustainability Excellence, is no other than the lady herself, our Queen of Sustainability, Julie Buckley.
