Cultural Appreciation training launched during National Reconciliation Week

This week is National Reconciliation Week, and the theme for 2024 is ‘Now More Than Ever’.

As part of Reconciliation Week, the Winslow Group has launched its online Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Appreciation training.

Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

As Australians, we can all be proud to be the home of one of the oldest continuous civilisations on Earth, extending back more than 65,000 years.

Reconciliation is about building better relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community for the benefit of all Australians.

A way of reconciling is to acknowledge what Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been through and continue to fight for over decades.

It is also an opportunity to reflect on the First Nations culture and support the celebrations of the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Our Cultural Appreciation training course aims to increase employees’ awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their culture.

Cultural awareness is a first step towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural competency, which refers to an ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.

The focus of the training is to provide background and context, and then to move into appropriate behaviour from Winslow employees.

Each person at Winslow is empowered to make good decisions to look after each other as family, be accountable to each other and be committed to operating safely.

All employees will soon be emailed a link to complete the course.
