Environmental obligations before site shutdown

Before sites are shut down for Easter, environmental management obligations must remain in place during the project shutdown period, specifically erosion and sediment control, dust controls and pollution prevention.

Site employees must identify environmental risks and implement controls for hazards such as flooding, bushfire risk, air pollution from dust, and water pollution.

Construction activities that lead to an increased erosion and sediment risk are to be avoided during the weeks before the shutdown that reduce the need for emergency work crews to attend site during the break should poor weather occur.

Project specific approval or licence requirements must be applied to project shutdown inspections, monitoring and environmental control maintenance regimes.

Erodible areas must be stabilised or covered where reasonably practical and ensure effective dust mitigation measures are in place.

Before shutdown, maximise upslope water diversions and minimise erosion risks and subsequent sediment discharge.
