Winslow’s environmental manager addresses ISC recycling forum

Winslow Infrastructure Environment and Sustainability Manager Allan Campbell recently attended an

Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) forum about recycled materials in infrastructure.

Allan addressed the focus group – Circular Economy, Recycled Materials and What State and Federal Governments Can Do – to discuss WI’s work on Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) projects, such as Sunbury and Lathams Road Upgrade projects.

A diverse group of contractors, suppliers, authorities and consultants attended the event chaired by ISC and hosted by Ventia.

The forum discussed issues and good practice about the use of recycled materials and what role the government can play in forwarding the industry.

Other issues included the time taken to get approval for materials, access to waste to be recycled holds the supply chain up, and the cost of disposal being cheaper to send to landfill than recycle.

Community perspective was also discussed on what more can be done to let the community know the recycling steps already being taken and also the high value of waste.

A report from the forum will be provided to the Federal Government.
