Chelsea thrives working outdoor
As part of Women in Construction Week, we meet some of Winslow Group’s women thriving in the civil construction industry. Today we meet Trafman Solutions NDD Operator Chelsea Rayner.
With her hands-on approach, and love for the outdoors, a career in civil construction was the perfect fit for Trafman Solutions NDD Operator Chelsea Rayner.
Chelsea acknowledges that working in construction has pushed her out of her comfort zone, fostering personal and professional growth.
“It has taught me valuable life skills that have helped me grow both personally and professional, and also the friendships I’ve made along the way,” Chelsea said.
Chelsea said school wasn’t the right fit, but the construction industry provided an avenue where she could apply her skills.
“Don’t let anyone discourage you from pursuing something you really want to do,” she said.
“School isn’t for everyone, I never enjoyed it. Since being in construction I can actually put my skills to use.”
Chelsea has worked on significant projects, including the Sunbury Road Upgrade and Lathams Road Upgrade projects.
The camaraderie she experienced at Sunbury Road with a great crew left a lasting impression.
“I really enjoyed working at Sunbury Road – it was a really good crew to work with,” she said.
The collaborative environment has also been instrumental in her learning and development.
“I’m really lucky to be surrounded by such a good team. Everyone at Trafman and Winslow has been super supportive since day one.”
The Winslow Group is determined to provide career opportunities in civil construction for women.
Encouraging other women to consider a career in civil construction, Chelsea sees it as an opportunity for them to break gender stereotypes in the industry.
“If you’re interested in construction and have a passion for it, I would definitely encourage girls to pursue a career in the field. It’s a great opportunity,” she said.
“Working in a male-dominated industry can have its challenges, but it can also be rewarding.
“As long as you stay confident, assertive, and focus on your skills and abilities you’ll be sweet.”
