Grounds for celebration

Winslow Infrastructure has found a new way to reduce its office coffee waste, but there’s no need to go caffeine free while doing it.

Reground Coffee is a social enterprise supplier, built on innovative waste collection and minimisation projects.

Each month, all the coffee grounds and soft plastics are collected from the WI office by Reground and diverted back to the community.

The grounds go straight to community gardens and home gardeners by adding the grounds to compost and worm farms, while the soft plastics are converted back into oil that can be used to create new soft plastics.

In total, the Reground Coffee program has avoided 312kg of emissions, or as Reground puts it, the team have saved 4442 lattes and two full trolleys of soft plastic in just a few months.

During November, the WI team has recorded its highest volume of coffee grounds and soft plastics collected from the office, check out the round up below.
